Emily Rodda was born in Sydney as Jennifer Rowe. She has two younger brothers. She graduated from the University of Sydney in 1973. She first became an editor and later on she became a publisher and Angus and Robertson. Her first book was published in 1984. Emily Rodda has won the Book Council of Australia Book of the Year Award an amazing five times. Emily Rodda has written about 52 books and is currently working on one. Emily Rodda gets her ideas by simply looking at something ordinary and asking herself “What if this happened?” This normally gets her imagination really going and some of her books have real life situations in them. She always carries a notebook with her so that she can write down the ideas she nearly always has. That way if she’s ever stuck for ideas she can flick through her note book to find a situation or character she likes and can use. Nearly all of her characters have something in common with people she knows.
